The southwest of Antioquia hides three valuable gems: three small towns that with their beauty, authenticity and architecture would take you on a journey through time.

We invite you to visit Jardin, Jerico and Hispania – Three beautiful and picturesque heritage towns of the department of Antioquia.

This tour goes through the biggest coffee-growing region of Antioquia, the Southwest of Antioquia and two important geographical features such as the Cauca River and Cerro Tusa. This is what makes this region one of the most beautiful in the department of Antioquia.

The main attraction of this tour is the small town of Jardin, considered the most beautiful of the department and one of the many heritage towns of Colombia.

We will visit the town of Hispania with its imposing Samanes trees and Jerico, where you will visit the hill “El Salvador” and enjoy a park that still preserves the architecture of the coffee era of the country. If you are into religious history you can visit the birthplace of the Colombian first Saint, Mother Laura.

Jardin is located in southwestern Antioquia, between the mountains of the Andes Cordillera and is only 4 hours from the city of Medellin. It is ranked as one of the 17 most beautiful towns in Colombia and it is characterized by the friendliness of its inhabitants. It’s also known for preserving the architecture of the Antioquian colonization.

Dotted along the beautiful and colorful streets of Jardin Antioquia are colonial buildings with tons of history. In the streets you will encounter smiling people and many bustling cafes and hangout spots.

Jardin has as a natural highlight called La Cueva del Esplendor, it is a cavern that intersects with a river, forming a natural and beautiful spectacle that will be hard to forget. It’s located on the outskirts of the town of Jardin, and is one of the most beautiful and emblematic natural places in Jardin.

Another great thing to do in Jardin is to walk along the path of La Herrera. This is a cobblestone path surrounded by trees and picturesque peasant houses, which leads to waterfalls, viewpoints and connects to La Garrucha, which is a “cable car” that connects the town of Jardin with the village of Serranias, and is used to transport passengers, coffee, bananas and farm supplies.

High in the coffee-growing region of southwestern Antioquia lies the charming town of Jerico, an authentic stronghold of highland culture where visitors can immerse themselves in the fascinating rural traditions of the Paisas’ inhabitants.

Thanks to its elegant Republican-era architecture, it is a pleasure to walk through the center of Jerico. Take the time to pause and sample the town’s award-winning coffee at one of the many gourmet cafés.

Jerico is known as the Athens of the Southwest, given the progress and culture of its people. It’s also called the “most beautiful town of Antioquia” for its topography, colonial style and landscapes. This magical municipality is the cradle of the carriel, where the best saddle makers compete for to produce the highest quality leather goods. These handmade pieces often include unique features such as perfect embroidery, precise finishes and the presence of bright colors.

Climb El Salvador Hill, along the stone path you will reach a huge statue of Christ the Redeemer and you will be ready to enjoy the magnificent views of the city and mountains full of farms on the horizon.

Jerico is surrounded by breathtaking nature, spaces like the Natural Park Las Nubes and its Botanical Garden and their landscapes. It is also a destination for religious tourism for its Museum of Religious Art and its many historic churches.

Hispania is a small town located in the heart of Southwestern Antioquia. It is a traditional town of the coffee region and is considered the capital of Southwestern Antioquia. The town is one of the areas where the paisa coffee culture is best noticed. Hispania is located 100 kilometers from Medellin. Their economy is based on livestock and coffee.

Undoubtedly, its main park is one of the most beautiful and welcoming of Antioquia. The park is surrounded by small cafes and has a beautiful green area decorated with lanterns that create an atmosphere at night that you may just not want to leave. The church of Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes has stained glass windows and paintings of artistic value and is another site to we will visit.

Five blocks from the main park is the ecological trail. It is a trail surrounded by green areas which allows walks in contact with nature. From there, you can see the town from a great viewpoint. This trail follows the Pedral River, which has natural pools and puddles ideal for bathing on a sunny day with an inner tube. Hispania is a perfect tourist destination for those who like tranquility. Ideal for rest and relaxation, it allows contact with nature and the simple life of the Antioquian locals.
